SpinVox: We love your accent campaign
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRdg1MOYxHo]
[Flight of the Conchords: He Maybe Did]
As an antipodean with an unusual name I’ve always had palpitations when calling mobiles and hearing “Your call is being answered by SpinVox”. Any message left by me will undoubtedly begin
“Hi it’s durka”
and involve such embarassing topics as
“The table’s booked for sex“
Perhaps sensing their role in creating so called accent self loathing SpinVox has started the Love Your Accent campaign utilising the new audio clip feature on Moblog.
Call 0151 266 8283 and tell them which accents you love (or hate) the most, and why, and there’s a host of goodies up for grabs.
NOICE WUN GOIS.
No FRijjan’ way pop-biatch
The new FRijj viral video [viral videos making us all a bit sick this week] has wound up a few people who received as part of their Popbitch newsletter.
The video was a sponsored link in last week’s HolyMoly, Popbitch, and B3ta newsletters but some readers were a bit put out Popbitch didn’t didn’t *CLEARLY SIGNPOST TO ALL READERS IT WAS A SPONSORED LINK*
What do you reckon? Poorly planned or an overreaction? Here’s some tasty highlights below:
taste that corporate c*ck popbitch
ha ha popbitch are such corporate sl*ts. “look at this cool video that’s in no way just a plug for one of our freebie providers”.
Holy Moly pointed me in this direction. Pop Bitch you say?? C**ts, i havent had a mail out from them for a while now.
Charming.
Moblog Beta: one of my favourite sites is having a makeover

One of my favourite images from a Shiny moblogging competition we ran
I am a huge fan of Moblog and they’ve had a proper Gok-style revamp; losing UK from their name, updating the site, and shifting to a new URL.
I can’t tell you how many times I present Moblog to agencies and brands jumping up and down with excitement and trying to demonstrate the potential to use for brand activity, particularly when they want an interactive UGC element to it.
Highlights of the new Moblog include:
- Audio Blogging: (courtesy of other demo fave, SpinVox)
- Domains: run your moblog from your own URL
- Maps: every Moblog user now has their own map which they can add their posts to either manually, or if you use a geotagging handset, automatically
Some of my fave moblogs:
What is freecording?
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0sFNE3PPd4]
Freecording is:
- to rally against the conceived notion of camcording
- a way for us to capture the visual world around us in our own way, with our own style and our own view
- living and shooting at the same time
- a new campaign concept from Canon
And a concept it is. In fact, I think its weakness is that it’s too conceptual. It’s all funky camera work and trendy beats. Is “freecording” a term they’ve coined themselves? If so*, then please present your official information in a way which explains what freecording is instead of making me feel like I am the last person on the planet to hear about this, must be uber-uncool and therefore need to buy some Canon equipment immediately to correct this affliction.
Canon is already a well loved brand, points out FlipCatch, particularly among the digital crowd. Why have they tried so hard to say they’re ‘hip and online’?
What do I think? Canon: just give some cool creative types (or as you think of them “the YouTube generation” some kit and let them create your campaign for you. Someone like Documentally would’ve been perfect to help you get your camcorders out there in a fresh and relevant way.
The best thing about this video is the sexy French accents as part of the voiceover – and everything sounds better with a French accent; including c’est merde.
* assumption based on the fact there’s nothing on Wikipedia about it
Behind the scenes at a leading moderation provider
If you enjoyed my post on the legal implications of user generation content (go on, you know you did) then I just wanted to direct you to this video of my client, Dominic Sparkes from Tempero, giving a behind the scenes look at running a moderation company.

Fullrun Event: How to pitch Times Online vs The Times print edition

Fullrun
I’m a huge fan of Fullrun‘s Talking Shop events where PRs get a chance to hear journalists talk about their publications and learn to refine their story pitches.
The next event, scheduled to take place on the 22nd July, will bring together tech and telecoms journalists from The Times and Times Online and will attempt ‘to tease out the (occasionally complex) relationship between The Times in print and Times Online.’‘
From experience The Times is often a good destination when you want to do traditional media outreach which also creates online impact with the double-whammy of the Times Online. So I will head down there to understand how to do this better.
Tickets are only £30 thanks to Edelman providing the venue (in their lovely new offices) and sponsors Huddle and Vanson Bourne.
Tempero: User Generated Content Forums & legal implications
I’m at Wiggin LLP‘s offices with my client, Tempero, for their jointly hosted ‘User Generated Content Forum’. The event discusses the legal and practical implications of allowing UGC on your web property.
Wiggin are media law experts and opening the session, then Tempero [Founder Dominic Sparkes] will take over and tell attendees how community moderation can help brands protect their image and meet their legal obligations.
Some good brand names here: M&S, Grazia, Hiscox to name a few.
First up is Wiggin [I didn't catch the name of the speaker, apologies!]
How do you manage liability?
Judith Lewis: Online Reputation Management
Still at MediaCamp London. Have been reading SEO chicks a bit over the past few months so came along to finally hear Judith Lewis talking her thang, live.
MediaCamp London 2008

I’m at MediaCamp today and this will be easiest blog post I’ll ever write. If you want to know what went down I won’t have to tell you, the community will do that for me (which seems fair since I arrived here at 9am to find out it didn’t start till 10). The Social Media Mafia are blogging (via SpinVox) posting to Flickr and updating the Wiki throughout today.
In the first 5 mins I’ve already heard about something new, Swarm, which no doubt I’ll be hearing more about as lots of ‘the family’ seem to be using it.
Thanks to our venue SAE (even if we couldn’t even find our way up the stairs without a guided tour).
[Can you tell I'm a little bit sleepy today?]
Digital Health Service launching at 2gether08
I’m sad I won’t be able to attend 2gether08 this week, but, I’ve been working with Gavin O’Carroll to promote The Digital Health Service workshop he’s running there tomorrow.
I met Gavin a few months ago when Katie and I were stalking Tim Ferriss round London and became really interested in the work he’s doing with organisations like The Learning & Skills Council, Channel 4 and uber-agency McCann Erikson.
The Digital Health Service usually kicks off with productivity workshops which help workers get a handle on how digital technology helps and hinders us in our everyday lives. Then, there’s a host of tips, tricks and techniques to improve your digital health. I’ve just signed up for his own creation, Rememble, which works as a virtual washing line for all your digital bits and pieces. (Still getting a handle on that)
If you’re down at the festival stop by ‘The Staff Room’ at 2.15pm to hear what it’s all about.
